XAMPP is a completely free, easy to install Apache distribution containing MySQL, PHP, and Perl. The initial X stands for the operating systems that it works with such as Linux, Windows and Mac. The XAMPP software contains the web server Apache, the relational database management system MySQL (or MariaDB) and the scripting languages Perl and PHP for back end server management.

It is recommended to turn off any antivirus software temporarily utill all XAMPP components have been installed successfully.
It is recommended to deactivate the user account control(UAC) utill all XAMPP components have been installed successfully.
Run the executable .exe file by double clicking on it. The setup wizard will start. Click on Next to configure the installation settings.
Under Select components choose the components of your choice. It is recommended to install a standard setup and all available components for a full local test server.
Under Installtion folder provide a path where the XAMPP software packet will be installed on your computer. Once path is provided click Next.
Click to start installation once all preferences are selected. The setup wizard will unpack and install the selected components. The installtion process can take several minutes in total.
Once all the components are unpacked and installed, you can close the setup wizard by clicking on Finish.
To verify whether your XAMPP local test server is installed and configured correctly create a php test page as shown in the following. Create a new PHP page by using the following content in your editor and storing it as hello.php in your test folder (C:\xampp\htdocs\test). Open your PHP page hello.php via localhost/test/hello.php. If your browser window displays the words 'Hello XAMPP World', then you have successfully installed and configured your XAMPP local test server.
